Our story
I was in college and just beginning my journey of living a life for Jesus. I had memorized a verse here and there but Scripture memory was never something I seriously tried. My entire life I struggled to memorize so it was hard for me. I decided it wasn’t important.
A few years into being a Christian, someone asked me what my favorite Bible verse was. I stood there in silence. I tried to think of my favorite Bible verse… then just any verse. Nothing. The only verse I could think of was John 3:16 and I simply replied, “I don’t have a favorite Bible verse,” trying to save face as if there was so many that I loved.
I was confronted with the reality of how little of God’s word I had hid in my heart. God stirred my heart to do something about it despite my inability to memorize basically anything.
I start memorizing. It goes great but soon the motivation wears off and it gets hard, surprise surprise. I try all of the different ways to memorize and find what works for me and what doesn’t. It’s a process. God began teaching me and using the passages inside me to grow closer to Him. The joy of the Lord was growing inside of me.
Then I decided to give my friend’s flashcard method a try. I liked it. I liked how easy it became to review older passages I’ve already memorized. But, I didn’t like the index card look. The index cards didn’t look too great on the coffee table. Naturally, I went online to find something better. There were a lot of cards with passages already on them but I wanted to choose what I memorized. The options were lackluster and had very busy designs. I wanted something high quality, simple, and that looked really good (the first prototypes in the photo below were a long way from this vision).
I wanted something that made it just a little easier to pick it up and memorize. And here we are. I eventually had cards & a holder that worked for me that I thought others might enjoy. I know the cards may not work for everyone, but if we can at least start the conversation and encourage brothers and sisters in Christ to start or continue memorizing God’s word, we’ve accomplished our goal. Buy our products or don’t buy our products, but think about stepping into a more joyful filled life and memorize to grow closer to God.
I have experienced the life-giving joy that memorizing God’s word brings and have watched so many around me step into the good gift that is a closer relationship with God.
Never once have I memorized a verse of the Bible and regretted it.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (II Timothy 3:16-17)
